Hi,
Does anyone know which South African Armoured Division was stationed around El Alamein (or perhaps Cairo) in December 1943?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
According to the links for the thread 4th South African armoured Car Regiment on page 15 of this section or if somebody reads this later 6 from the last page. The 6th South African Armoured Division was formed in the Union and sent up to Egypt in April of 1943 and stayed there till early 1944 when it went to Italy where it remained till after VE Day.
Cheers,
John K

Re: South African Armoured Division 1943
Thanks John, a useful start. My interest is as a result of buying a poster for a rugby game on Dec 25th 1943 between a British team from Cairo (RAF and Army) and a SA Armoured Div team played at the El Alamein Rugby Club !! I wonder who won ??!
