What is this monument and its significance?

General WWII era German military discussion that doesn't fit someplace more specific.

What is this monument and its significance?

Post by ibrahim ahmad »

Hi,

Does anyone know what this monument is or its significance?
It seems to be associated to the Freikorps document as the monument appear to be the same.

Thank You for any help given.

Greetings,
Ibrahim,
Singapore.

I assume that this monument celebrated the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 A.D. where Arminius (Hermann) managed to ambush and destroy three Roman legions under the command of Publius Quinctilius Varus?

Amazing how this one battle became such a symbol of German nationalism, considering that the Romans, before and after this battle, regularly destroyed barbarian German armies for centuries....

Hi Ibrahim,

This subject, the giant statue of "Hermann the German", has been raised on Feldgrau before. Try
