Divisional commander Otto Baum and Albert Stückler (Ia) told me they tried to obtain his release from US troops assuming he was captured. They offered a large sum of money (50,000RM) and a prisoner exchange but got no reply. From that most assumed he'd been shot in a firefight or after being taken prisoner.

I did read from sowhere, that Tychsen's younger brother served in "Reich" too.He was Obersturmfuhrer in Divisional Escort Company.Company led by him was decimated in Hungary March 45.Does anyone knows did he survived war?.And another question. Both Witt brothers were killed.Friz with Hitlerjugend in Normandy and his brother with LAH in Greece. Is there more famous brothers in Waffen-SS?

Tychsen
I found out about this talking to Mark Bando. He's going to be redoing his book on the 2nd Armored in Normandy, and he told me about his research into Tychsen's death. I don't know if all the players are still alive, but there doesn't seem to be a ready explanation for why his body was found so far from the ambush site. Like everything else, when I get a little spare time on my hands, I want to read more about it.
