Italy (Diplomatic Influence)

What if the SS were stronger in man-power and supplies than they actually were?

That's a good question. The Graf Spee was surrounded and sunk in Montevideo.

@Guillermo: That's right, but you shouldn't forget that the Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain.

Hmmm, if the SS had more manpower, etc then I would imagine there would be more original uniforms and related items on the collector market, and that would be great!

Oh, but would the extra manpower and equipment have made a difference back during the war? In local operations, perhaps - but overall, no. Germany was still forced to fight a war on two fronts (even three, if you count the air war and bombing campaigns), the "greatest general of all time" (Hitler) was running the show, another handicap as time went on... they still would have lost the war, my friend. The Germans would have needed much more to have pulled it off.

What's with Italy and this subject?

I have to agree with HD, outcome would have been the same. Espacially the way the SS Divisions took causalties.

Their tactics and Hitler's squandering of men and resources would have not helped in the out come.

.....Whit is Italy in this subject title?

Cheers

Hi Guys,

As has been argued on other threads, the Waffen-SS added nothing to the sum total of German military strength. Expanding it would also have added nothing to German military strength. Every man and every weapon diverted to the Waffen-SS was one less for the German Army, which was already arguably the best in the world.

The Waffen-SS had a political, not military, rationale.

Indeed, because it unnecessarily duplicated so many existing army functions, there is a case to be made that, rather than adding to the sum total of German miltary strength, the existence of the Waffen-SS may actually have subtracted from it.

Cheers,

Sid.
