Cherkassy - anyone know of any online references

Post by Rimini »

Hi,
I live in a remote region without access to libraries or bookshops, does anyone know of any websites that describe the Cherkassy pocket encirclement battle. Particularly covering the escape by German forces over the river.

Thanks

Unfortunately, there are no detailed websites about Cherkassy that I've found. I've only found general high level information. If you are able, you should check out or buy (maybe through amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com online booksellers) a copy of Hell's Gate by Douglas Nash. It is a very detailed account of the battle and includes individual eye witness stories. It is an excellent read.

As I am reloating to a major centre (Melbourne) in 4 weeks the second thing outside of joining the library will be to seek out some decent bookshops - thanks for the reference on Hells Gates i have seen it mentioned but yet to read it. :D

Hi Rudie, Glad to see you are still around. (has nothing to do with the subject) As Spock would say: "Live long and prosper". HN.
