Hi,
I am trying to find out some information about Feldwebel Dieter Jahn who I believe was the eldest son of General Jahn (artillery) . From the picture I have of him he is wearing a panzer wrap with shoulder boards from the 5th Panzer Regiment and is an officer candidate. Picture was taken in 1943. I would like to know a brief military history and awards if possible.
Thanks for you help.
Phil

Re: Information on a Dieter Jahn panzers
I believe that at one time 5th Panzer regiment was assigned to 25th Panzergrenadier Division, perhaps looking at that Division's records might help.

Re: Information on a Dieter Jahn panzers
Hello Phil and Dave!
The original Panzer-Regiment 5 was was part of the 21. Panzer-Division (first known as the 5. leichte Division) and participated in North African campaign between 1941 and 1943, the Regiment being annihilated in April/May 1943 in Tunis. While the 21. PD was totally rebuild in France (with the new Panzer-Regiment 100), the Panzer-Regiment 5 was re-formed as the Panzer-Abteilung 5 in the 25. Panzer-Grenadier-Division.

Great to hear from you Herr Doktor!!!
Looks like 5th Pz. wasn't what you'd call a "lucky" unit.
Bestens,
David
