Dear Forum
The album consists of 163 photos taken before, during and after the Battle of the River Plate. The album belonged to an unknown officer or senior NCO, who remained under internment conditions at a rural facility rented by the Argentine government for that purpose. After a time he scaped back to Germany and left most of his personal belongings behind, including this leather album. Most of the pages have comments handwritten in gothic letters. The owner of the farm presented it to me when I was a young boy, given my interest for WWII history.
The photos show: the crew before leaving the port, allied ships being sunk, routine activities on board, the Commander, the flying boat with French underwing insignia, an French flag flown in an aft mast, canvas desguise constructions, the damaged ship entering Montevideo, burial ceremonies, the ship being blown up, sailing to Buenos Aires, etc
The album contents are in a CD which I may send if requested. Too heavy to upload here.
The album is in Rosario , Province of Santa Fe, Argentina
The price is 2500 EUROS.
Regards
Ignacio
