Synthetic oil

Post by lennardg »

Does anyone have any info on this ? could synthetic oil-production substitute Germanys lack of access to real oil reserves in the last year of the war ?, was this the plan ? where were the factories/ laboratories for producing this ?
Lots of questions I know.

Germans were extacting synthetic oil from coal all along. I Do not have any specifics like # barrels, but production could never replaced oil supply only supplement production.

From the Third Reich Fact book.
Synthetic oil Production
1939 2,2
1940 3,3
1941 4,1
1942 4,9
1943 5,7
1944 3,8
(Million tonnes)

Also about 25 percent of wood mass can be converted in few related kinds of oil. A patent was obtained by scientists from Berlin in the 1920's for this matter. If you want details I have to look into some downloads. However, it looks like coal was the only source used to get synthetic oil.
