Allies Reports of GD Pzgr Div in Ardennes '44

Many books on the Ardennes Offensive: Toland's, Elstob's, MacDonald's, Merriam's; point out that the U.S. Army mistook the two Fuhrer brigades, Fuhrer Begleit and Fuhrer Grenadier, for the Grossdeutschland Panzergrenadier Division. How long did this mistaken identification last? Was it througout the battle, that is until around 16 JAN '45?
