Veterans' Opinion of K98 Mauser Rifle

Post by park ranger »

Hello,

I was wondering what the opinion of the German soldier whether Heer/Lufttwaffe/Waffen SS was regarding the K98 Mauser rifle. Was the K98 highly thought of or was it held in low esteem?
Thanks!

I can't think of any real objections against this weapon; beside not being (semi-)automatic, but then almost every army used these types of weapons (bolt-action? I believe: Lee-Enfield, Springfield, Mosin-Nagant).

The Mauser KAR-98K - and various sub-types - had been in use so long that it seems unlikely that it was not practical.

I can't find any links to stories about veterans and their Mauser, but perhaps with renewing this post somebody else knows a good link?

Greetings LIJN
