Memoirs of Gunther Wanhofer !!

Post by Paul E »

Guys,

Wanhoefer is one of the few Waffen SS RKT still alive , he won the RK at Narva in 1944 whilst serving with SS Pi Btl 54 , apparently after the war his memoirs were published in Germany does anyone have any information or knowledge about them ?

regards

Paul

This would be Pioniere nach Vorn published in 1962. Here is a link on Amazon for a source

http://www.amazon.de/Pioniere-nach-vorn ... B0000BP54Y

Most of the 248 page book by Wanhöfer appeared in the individual Pioniere histories of the Wiking and Nederland divisions that Kurt Imhof published in the 1980s.

A rather strange book indeed. Not so much memoirs as a collection of episodes - and the style at times is more like a novel or Landser volume. Hardly any dates are given either, which makes it rather frustrating. And yet, elsewhere, there are some good accounts.

Copies are floating around for about £30. I certainly wouldn't want to pay over the odds for it. :[]
