5. /A.R. 70 ARTY SEARCH....

Post by SOTD »

My first post......and a weak start at that. I have an M-35 helmet with the name "Kan. Heiber, 5. / A.R. 70" . I have done some looking here and there, but no firm data so far. Does anyone out there know about Heer Artillery Regts.? I would like to know more about where, are to which unit this fellow was attached. Thanks, Mike

Hello SOTD :D; just a little info to start................

The 5. Battery was part of the II. Abteilung of Artillerie-Regiment 70, which was organized on Nov 10 1938 at Koblenz-Niederlahnstein in WK XII. It was composed of 3 motorized batteries (two with heavy howitzers of 150 mm and one with cannons of 100 mm). The II./ AR 70 was subordinated within the Army Group C during the Western campaign and in the summer of 1940 was redeployed to East Prussia and subordinated to the XXX AK. Interesting the 5./ AR 70 was detached from that group to organize an antiaircraft unit, the Heeres-Flak-Artillerie-Abteilung 278 on Feb 13 1941.

First Abteilung Commander was Oberstleutnant Paul Bornscheuer (1938 - 1940).
