Guys, I've just noticed that in my notes I have a II Abteilung & a III Abteilung, but no I Abteilung, is that correct?
Was the I Abteilung sunk in the Med?

David, this is quite confusing as the original 164 Inf Div had four battalions in its artillery regiment but may have left some in Crete when it moved from there to Africa. Weren't the men flown to Africa so even if their equipment had been sunk they wouldn't they still have existed as a battalion with no weapons ?

Easter Greetings and Salutations!

The Kriegsgliederung of 27.10.1942 (BA-MA RHD 18/61) shows the Artillerie-Regiment 220 had two artillery battalions, namely,
— the I. (formerly the II./Art.Rgt.220 [i.a.w. Tessin] ) consisting of three motorized batteries equipped with 4 light field howitzers each,
— the II. (formerly the III./Art.Rgt. 220 [i.a.w. Tessin] ) consisting of two mountain batteries equipped with 4 light pack guns each; this battalion is shown as being authorized an additional 20 personnel carriers and 15 load carriers. (Pack animals were not authorized.)

Cheers
Leo

The II./Art.Rgt. 220 was authorized 7,5cm Gebirgsgeschütz 36. I do not know the exact type that was issued.

Cheers
Leo
