Strange leather pouch. Help in recognition needed.

Hello everyone!
Few days ago I was given a strange item, which looks like being a German one. It is a kind of pouch or rectangular stiff bag (ca 21 cm high and 10 cm wide), made of orange-brown leather with natural stitching and it is closed by a brass pin, similar to those met in holsters (for instance: Walther PPK holster). There is also a metal reinforcement in the upper part of interior. There are no markings on the leather.
At first I thought, it was a pre-war made magazine pouch for Maschinenpistole (MP 28 or later - MP 38/40), but the magazines are too high to be kept inside. There are some elements suggesting, it was used by Germans: the leather loops ideally fit the standard soldier's belt and there is also a D-ring on the backside, identical to those put together with Mauser 98k ammo pouches.
Does anybody know what kind of pouch it is or by which brand of service it could have been used? Thank you very much for help.
