?? on Marder II & III of 4.PzArmee at Kursk

Post by castro323 »

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows the number of Marder II or III, if their was,
on the Panzerjaeger Abteilung in the 4.PanzerArmee in Zitadelle 1943.
XLVIII.PanzerKorps - (3.Panzer.Division & 11.Panzer.Division)
III.PanzerKorps - (6.Panzer.Division, 7.Panzer.Division, & 19.Panzer.Division)

Also, another question, did 2.Panzer.Division of 9.Armee carried sIG.33 Grille at Kursk ?

I looked over the forum but no luck.
Hopefully this question is not answered already.
If it is, I apologize.

Anyways, I appreciate for the help and thanks.

On 30.6.1943 the units in question reported the following number of self-propelled a/t guns on hand:

3. Pz.Div.: 14 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 131)
11. Pz.Div.: 11 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 131) [+3 more shipped from an ordnance depot in Germany on 8.7.1943]

6. Pz.Div.: 5 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 131) and 1 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 132) [+9 more Sd.Kfz. 131 shipped from an ordnance depot in Germany on 8.7.1943]
7. Pz.Div.: 6 Marder III (Sd.Kfz. 139) [+ at least 8 taken over from other units (6., 11. and/or 23. Pz.Div.) during early July 1943, but I'm not sure if in time for the start of 'Zitadelle'.]
19. Pz.Div.: 14 Marder III (Sd.Kfz. 139)

Most of the guns were combat ready at the start of 'Zitadelle'.

The 2. Pz.Div. did not have any 'Grille' available directly at the start of 'Zitadelle' because the 12 pieces were shipped on 5.7.1943 and thus arrived some days later.

Thanks Mr. Block for the information.
I have another question to ask.

I was checking around the forum and found out that Panzerjaeger.Abteilung.178 of 78.Sturm.Div. had Marder II.
The information I found was posted by you, Mr. Block.
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=23050&p=167884&hil ... 78#p167884

According to the info.
Pz.Jg.Abt.178 was authorized two companies of 13 x Pak-Sfl. each. and thus 26 x Panzerjaeger II
AKA Marder II were delivered until mid May 1943.

Is it safe to say that Pz.Jg.Abt.178 had all 26 Marder II operational at the starting of Zitadelle, 1943.
Could this be possible ?

Once again thanks for your time and take care.

I'd say yes it is. At least on 30.6.1943 the 78. Sturm-Div. had reported all 26 vehicles still on hand.

Did actually figures on June 30 1943 and 1 July 1943 were different set of reports ? Because I see all status reports of Panzer divisions dated July 1 1943 was give percentage on all soll number of vehicles, not a exact figures. And sometimes I search the figures on June 30 1943 was somewhat different from what I calculate in percentage in July 1 report.
