I regret to announce the deaths of two decorated veterans of the 272nd Volks-Grenadier Division - former Unteroffiziere Fritz Fosselmann and Heinrich Misskampf, who passed away in July and June 2008 respectively, at their homes in Berg and Nauheim, Germany. Both had been with the Heavy Weapons Platoon of Fuesilier Kompanie 272, after previously serving in Fuesilier Bataillon 272 in Normandy. Fosselmann led the mortar section and Misskampf was the section forward observer. Both had fought in France in 1940 and Russia. Fosselman also served a year in the 15th Panzer Division with Rommel in 1942. Both graciously consented to be interviewed and contributed generously towards the writing of Victory Was Beyond Their Grasp. Both are survived by several children and grandchildren and their grandsons are particularly interested in learning more about what their "Opa" did in the war. These two ordinary men, who performed bravely and gallantly in the service of their nation, will be missed.
Sadly,
Doug Nash

Sorry to hear of their passing. You were fortunate to have known them. Still, their memory lives on in your excellent book.
