SS Dagger Found in House - Guess the Price!

I friend of mine in Germany recently purchased an SS model 1933 Klaas dagger that once belonged to SS-Hauptsturmführer Georg Urabl. Urabl was a holder of the German Cross in Gold and served in the LAH and “Hitler Jugend” divisions. The Urabl SS dagger pictured below was found in a house in Bavaria. These daggers typically sell for thousands of Euros/Dollars and are even more valuable when the original owner can be identified. However, the man who sold the dagger did not know who the original owner was. So who wants to make a guess how much money my friend actually paid for this dagger?

SS Numbers are stamped under the bottom crossguard of the dagger. The buyer did his research and knew that SS Nr. 132 158 belonged to Georg Urabl, but the seller did not. So how much money do you think the buyer paid for this piece of history?

That's pretty stunning. I'm not a collector of daggers and the like, but that appears to be a fine piece indeed. I can't even imagine the price!!

What a beautiful find! Congratulations to your friend John!

Georg Uralb recieved the DKiG on 14.11.1944 as a SS-Hauptsturmführer commanding III./SS-Pz.GR 26.

And a wild guess... A 20 Euro bill!

Envious regards,

Well, the fact you are asking and telling us.......that tells me it is either really "out to lunch" or way too much.

My guess.......a good case of beer or a few bottles of wine type of deal?????

Sorry, but you guys are on the low side. He would have had to pay a lot more than he did if the seller had known who the dagger belonged to, but he did not get a cheap price either. Anybody know what the top prices are on these daggers? I know a man in California who is looking for his first dagger, just like his father in the LAH once wore.

John,

I think it depends on from whom he bought it, just someone clearing a house or an
knowledgeable dealer?

I would think about $3500.00?

My friend paid 1,850 Euros for that dagger. At the current exchange rate of USD 1.58 to 1 Euro, that works out to USD 2,923 or CDN 2,978. The seller could have demanded a lot more if he had known who the dagger originally belonged to. Adding to the value of this dagger was a large personnel file on Georg Urabl that was available from NARA. It pays to do research!
