Photos Request

Post by milbay »

Hello

During the year 1945 an American soldier crossed the rhine, drank the wine and f ... ooops ... not this one ...
As said ... in 1945 an US Soldier found - stoled - liberated (call it the way you want) a SEVERE bunch of german WW2 negatives (photos) ...
His son (a really great guy) is starting to send me this MONSTER collection of picture (usually sized +6000 x +4000 pix *.tif) lol (15 to 20 MB the pic)...
As I am a well known planetary master idiot I am willing (as usual) to share all these pictures with ...

Does anyone of you want to exchange digital for digital photos just drop me a note here.

The pictures are really must see picture ...
Let me show you some (notice that they are resized)

photos from Bad Windheim
http://eucmh.com/00-german-archives-cen ... ny/bertha/

photos from Rotenburg
http://eucmh.com/00-german-archives-cen ... y/richard/

photos from Dunkirk
http://eucmh.com/00-german-archives-cen ... ance/dora/

and these are strange photos from german people dismounting a Junker 52 in the middle of nowhere (??????????)

I would really like to know what they are doing to this plane wich seems to be almost brand new !!!

Hello

Yes that's what I thought but the way they are doing it is disturbing. They work just like a farmer on a farmer machine during the peace time.
Is it not possible that they ar simply dismonting one Ju for the US and to send it to an American Museum ? Loock around there isn't even a sentinel there and no gun at all ---> ????? in war time in Germany .... it sounds strange

Note that the next pictures I just got are even better to .... French Air Force 1940 Junker 52 (???????) never saw this before ... beside this Junker was sale to a lot of Companies around the world (even i n USA) but french military airplanes Ju-52 sounds again really strange

I thouhgt the same too, but then I saw the German soldier standing next to the Ju-52. I think it is a German soldier, but I´m not sure, I think I recognized the Kar98 and the Stahlhelm .. :D

Recovery

Post by Abicht »

There is a German soldier in pic 4, and I have seen photos very similar to this for recovering aircraft that have belly landed, or had malfunctions in landing gear. It makes sense that this is what they are doing as they are digging out from under the fuselage where the landing gear should be. The one pic (5) looking straight on shows very minor denting so guess it had an emergency landing.

A wild guess on my part, but I think the pilot simply didn't notice the existing drainage ditch in the middle of the field until after he landed his plane. Looks like the front landing gear of the plane dropped into the ditch almost exactly perpendicular to its direction of travel. He must have already decelerated to a very slow speed because the plane didn't nose down into the ground. Unfortunately there's no pic of the propeller blades.
In the very last pic, take a look at where the plane's tire marks start on the grass - correct me if I'm wrong, but by the pattern the tires made on the ground, it appears to start off as a normal landing -- until the pilot notices the ditch ahead.
I'll bet the armed guard was no more than a regular guy in the Luftwaffe, assigned via protocol to make sure no one tried to take off with a part of the plane during its disassembly. He doesn't look too worried, does he? :D My uncle served in the Luftwaffe ... this episode is fairly characteristic of some of the dumb stuff he's recounted from his training time.

Hey, Gunter! I think I know what that soldier was saying!

"Verdammt flieger! Who put this airplane in a ditch? Not me! Who has to stand here in the cold and guard it? Not him!" :D

hahahahah sure do ...

OOps yes I saw the soldier ... (I didn't notice him before) ...
This make still no sence to me because if the pilot managed the plane in this ditch (huray ...) what are they doing ... take the plane into parts and rebuild it 100 or 200 meters away .... diging out a way out of the ditch and towing the plane would be more logical.
Is there not a German Luftwaffe specialist in the forum ? he could say what the N°53 was attached to and what happened to it ...
(I am only asking for the case the farmer would still have the plane in parts in some Kölner barn .... hihihih)

Maybe the Wehrmacht needs money, so the soldier is dealing parts of the plane to big industrialists ( ;) )

"Farmers"

Post by Abicht »

I would not assume from the photos alone these guys are farmers. As all modern governments and militarys do - they contract out locals and companies to do work for them. These guys could be from a local constrution company ect if the nearby airfield did not have the ability to recover (with the right equipment) planes in this condition/size. Further more the other photos I have seen of aircraft recovery, they frequently take apart the main sections for transport, especially due to damage. Most to the recovery photos I saw were of German fighters, and downed allied fighters, and they were usually take off the wings and engine for transport, so this doesnt appear to be unusual.

hello

It is also possible. The main question for me is this plane seems to be "brand new" but ...
By the way I remember hile I was in Alex Va a military surplus with at least 15 to 20 original german WW2 21cm nebelwerfer (the guns not the ammos) outside the store ...
I can remember that it was not far from the smallest house in the USA as well as George Washington's house. (1985)
