Notts Yeomanry

Post by David W »

I have got a provisional date of arrival in North Africa for this unit, of 19/02/42. Can anyone confirm?

Also, what quantity & type of tanks did they arrive with?
Thanks. Dave.

Arrived in Palestine a long time before that, with the 1st Cavalry Division. Initially horse cavalry and then I think coastal artillery, but only one or two batteries saw action in the latter role. Converted to tanks in Egypt 1942 as part of 10th Armoured Div. Equipped initially with Crusaders and Grants, later got some Shermans. Usual proportion at that time was two squadrons of Crusaders to one of Grants.

I'm working from memory, so I hope all is right

Every little helps! Although I suspect; one Sqd Honeys & two Sqds Cru II would be the pre Grant line up!
Thanks. Dave.

Thanks.

But wasn't 23/10/42 2nd (or more correctly 3rd) Alamein? Not 1st?

I am really looking for info that pre-dates 23/10/42.

P.s. Am really looking forward to studying your O.o.B/T.o&E on AHF tonight! :D
Thanks. Dave.
