L shaped gun

Post by GCFD »

Would anybody know where one could get that particular extend barrel. You know the curved barrel that was made in a 90 degree angle. If anybody knows where you could purchase that barrel could you let me know. Also would anyone know that if such a barrel extension is being produced if there are ones being made for different types of calibers for say a 22. or a 30.

Thank you

you mean the barrel attachment for the mp44 assault rifle? Gmax is making display-only repros :

once there, go to ordnance, and then look for The curved barrel

Hello,

please try another search for Krummlauf for further information.

If I remember this correct, there was also a 90 degree experimental curved barrel for the Maschinenpistole MP38/MP40, I will look in old copies
"Waffen-Revue" from the early 1970s, there was an article and some photos about this experimental barrel...

I've seen this gun at Aberdeen proving ground in Maryland USA. Have picture in a museum book I got there. My wife swears its a hoax that guns can't shoot around corners... :D

I believe it was created to shoot out the top of a tank and clear off boarders and such.

Sorry Reb...

There was an experimental 90 degree curved barrel for the MP 38/40, even with a special optic , to shot around corners.

Give me some time, and I will scan/show you all the facts.

krummerlauf

Post by Dragunov »

i was once looking around on a site called egun.de (like ebay, but for guns in germany) and i typed in mp44 and someone was selling a rusty krummerlauf for 300 or 400 euros.

optics are really rare for the krummerlauf now, and the most complete one for sale (past) ive seen was here:

http://www.sarcoinc.com/krummerlauf.html

they also put those on the mg42......

thats what i call crazy. the fragementation from when that explodes from overuse would kill the enemy, rather than the bullets themself (which fragment, BTW). some good pics of the krummer (sights, bullet damage from barrel...) are found in 'secret weapons of the third reich' by Leslie Simon.

Another possible use for the attachment was on the proving ranges, to deflect the rounds into a sandpit. I don't know if this is accurate, as the source book was quite old.

I recall reading somewhere that these curved barrel machine pistols were wildly inaccurate, and barrel life was extremely short (on the order of 200 rounds or so) due the extreme friction generated. Plus, they were not very popular with the troops and the idea was quickly shelved if I remember correctly. In the end, to fire accurately you still have to expose yourself to a certain extent.

they were inaccurate because they shredded the bullets. how are you supposed to hit something with it when the recoil now pushes sideways?

they lasted about 200 rounds like you said, but whoever builds them differs. forgot the company.

The curved barrel from egun.de that you reffered to was a fake - this was discussed on some german board (I forgot the link :-/ )
