Could be Greenland or Iceland or both.
Icelandic trawler, rough weather, GIs on a cold rough climb...
First guess: Arctic patrols? But that's not really events as such is it

Could be Greenland or Iceland or both. Nope
Icelandic trawler Not Icelandic, no trawler, but a fishing vessel, kind of...
rough weather, GIs on a cold rough climb... Yup
First guess: Arctic patrols? But that's not really events as such is it Nope
Events-> Perhapes we can call it a "planned set of actions" with a spesific end target
This action involving this ship is one of them.....
So what are they fishing?

I think the location is ATTU Island in the Aleutians, and the US invasion of ATTU is the series of events.

Clues:
Fishingvessel is the "Wizard" catching king crab out of Dutch Harbour, Aleutean Islands.
US soliders on Attu.
USS Salt Lake City in action against a japanese convoy to Attu.
Campaign was the word I was looking for
Aleutian Islands Campaign
Then it's all yours, John.

Hello Pak:
Those King Crab Legs got the old grey cells moving in the right direction. I have a clue up-coming if I can get the photo uploaded for this quiz. I intend to post a new riddle in the WWI section too, so be patient.

Re: Feldgrau Forum Photo Riddle ?
Correct Waleed!!!
Fred Walker was born in my home state of Ohio, was not a West Point grad, and was involved in the Rapido River disaster in Italy. He was a dedicated Infantryman and felt many of his superiors, who came from cavalry or armored backrounds, did not understand infantry warfare, which accounted for the majority of the fighting in Italy. He led the 36ID during its infiltration through the German lines south of Rome, which opened the front to the US troops. He left the 36ID to return to Fort Benning and command of the Infantry School there. Congrats Waleed!! Over to you!!

Re: Feldgrau Forum Photo Riddle ?
Hello Waleed:
I have a feeling it is T/Sgt. Charles "Commando" Kelly, winner of the MOH with the 36ID at Altavilla, Italy. I know there is a facility named after him at Oakdale, PA. He threw 60mm mortar rounds like footballs at the Germans.

Re: Feldgrau Forum Photo Riddle ?
Sorry John, not an "Irish sounding" Kelly.
Though his name has much to do with the country in which
General Walker commanded the 36th.
The facility (as far as I have found out) is not an active military installation as such.
More on the line of "after the battle help and retirement".
