The Armee-Abt. Samland listing has appeared on this web site and on Axis History Forum several times recently. Have you tried using SEARCH?

Armeeabteilung Samland - Stand: 1.3.1945

IX. Armeekorps mit 58, 93, 95, 286, 548, 551 und Festungs Pillau (607);
z.Vfg.: 1. und 9.Pz.Div.

I am sure the soldiers of Armee-Abt. Samland would have given many francs for some of your rhum!

Samland

Hello Gents

Just had a quick look at the Feldgrau OOB CD as the Pz Div described as been present spiked my curiousity. The relevant entry for 1st March'45 reads z.Vfg KG 1(ID) & 5 Pz Div. A typo I would suspect!

Cheers

The OB I gave comes verbatim from Tessin, Band XIV, page 219 under Armeeabteilung Samland, and the Panzer-Div. is "9". I just double-checked it. So there is indeed a typo somewhere, but is it in Tessin or in the CD? I'll let you investigate and determine which is correct.

i think that the 5 pz division was part of a.abt samland,in thomas jentz'panzertruppen band 2 at the date of 15 march 1945 :5pz is under "HG"NORD,9 pz is under "HG"B.in the book "german tanks and formation 1939-45" from malcolm bellis you can read -5 pz: east prussia(11.44) hela peninsula (3.45)danzig (4.45) -9 pz:ardennes(12.44)eifel(2.45)ruhr(4.45).is there any other oob of this armee abteilung samland.thank you!

FWIW:

I show 5.Pz.Div. on the eastern front for 01 Mar.1945 and 9.Pz.Div. on the western front.

I suspect the entry from the Feldgrau CD, as noted by donwhtie, is accurate. If you look at the second page of the OOB for that date you'll see 9.Pz. under LXXXI - 15.Armee - Heeresgruppe B.

Also:
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... IKorps.htm
"Aufgestellt am 20. Mai 1940. Das Armeekorps wurde im Januar 1945 zur Armee-Abteilung Samland und anschließend wieder zum XXVIII. Armeekorps."

And from:
http://home.hetnet.nl/~conny-rene/Korps ... spage.html
"The Korps (28th) was encircled in Memel from 10 October onwards. There it stayed in defense of the city till end of January 1945. Then the Korps retreated over the Kurische Nehrung to Samland (22 till 31 January). When the staff of 3. Panzerarmee was withdrawn to Pommerania, the Korps took over all troops in Samland and Königsberg as Armee Abteilung Samland on 8 February 1945. When the battle of Samland ended in middle of April 1945, the Korps was withdrawn from the front and placed in OKH reserve."

Armee Abt Samland

Sorry- I posted a reply but labeled it "9. Panzer Div and 5 Panzer Div 3/45" so it isn't attached to this subject and I don't know how to move it. But please see that for some more info on these divisions.
Best regards,

Here are two from Tessin:

8-2-45* (z. Vfg. OKH): Gen. Kdo. XXVIII with
IX AK: 551, 286, 95, 93, 58, 548, Fest. Pillau (607)
*Tessin made a mistake on the date- IX and XXVIII AK were still under 3rd Pz Armee on 1 Feb- when the AOK was pulled out on 8 Feb the Armee Abt Samland was formed (Ziemke, "Stalingrad to Berlin, page 446). But all listed divisions were in either IX or XXVIII AK on 1 Feb except 93 ID, which was brought from VI SS AK, 16th Army by 8 Feb.

1.3.45 (z. Vfg. OKH): XXVIII. AK with
z. Vfg: 1 ID, 5 Pz* IX AK: 551, 286, 95, 93, 58, 548, Fest. Pillau (607)
*Tessin has 9 Pz but this is a typo as we discovered; the 1.3.45 OKH Kgl. shows 5. Pz. The Kgl. agrees with Tessin in all respects. 286 and 551 are shown as Kgr. by 1 March.
