Guderian tank?

Post by k-pp »

I have a photo of a 'dead' German tank taken near Amiens in the summer of 1940. It has a white 'G' (Guderian?) and the registration '23026' painted in white on the turret.

Can the tank be identified from this? I mean, does anyone know - or would care to speculate - the manner in which it was lost and the fate of the crew?

Thanks!

OK, I'll just speculate... G stands for Guderian that is beyond doubt.

Well, yes, it would have to be a tank of Guderian's XIX Panzer Korps. And the number might be the manufacturer's serial number.

What kind of tank is it, K-pp?

Hi guys,

Someone at Wehrmacht-Awards was kind enough to post an image of it there. Follow the link:

Thank you, Karl, for the link.

Hmmmm ... it's clearly a Panzer II light tank, but those turret markings don't look like anything German that I've ever seen. It could be some kind of recovery mark painted on by a tank-recovery outfit. But they sure don't look like normal German tactical markings to me.

What do the rest of you guys think?

Yours,
Paul

Only an idea, but the "G" could also be a "6", isn´t it?

I've looked at the photo again and again since I downloaded it, Grunt, and I swear, it doesn't look a thing like the number 6--it's a capital "G".
