Alec Guiness as Hitler

Just borrowed a tape of the film 'Hitler - the last 10 days' from a friend. Hmmm. wasn't sure what to make of the thing really. Has anyone else seen this? Guiness does a fairly good job replicating Hitler's delusional flakiness, but overall the film for me had the feel of one of those cheap WWII exploitation flicks the italians used to make in the seventies. Or am I being harsh??

Maybe a dose of 'Ilsa' style smut would have livened it up a bit!

although a somber film, Sir Alec was superb as Hitler.

When Guiness was posing (in London), in Hitler's uniform, for publicity photographs for the film, his car was illegally parked. During a break in the shooting, a London policeman approached him and said, "At the risk of being sent to a concentration camp, could I please ask you to move your vehicle?".

I saw it a couple of months ago and wasn't impressed at all. At least not in any positive sense.
Wat was meant to be a lazy sunday afternoon watching WWII flicks changed into 'hard labour' having to watch Guiness making an utter fool of himself.
Then again, maybe I'm just spoiled after Bruno Ganz did his take on Hitler.

Standards and production values merely change. Sir Slec's performance was great...
for the time. And I'm tempted to say a British/American production wouldn't be quite as "faithful" to the surrounding/events as a Continental one anyway
They AT TAHT TIME traditionally relied on the strength of performances, and dragged the production values kicking and screaming along with them at a poor second

I though Sir Alec did a good job at the time. However, as stated, one will have to work extremely hard to surpass Bruno in that role!

Guiness is a great actor and I believe that he did an excellent job in portraying Hitler as the wicked idiot the man was. I liked the movie and have viewed it a number of times.

I still think, Bruno Ganz should have gotten an Oscar for his performance.
That was the closest, any actor ever came to portraying Adolf Hitler.
If you compare historical footage of Hitler to his performance.

Yes I agreed. So far, Bruno's performance would be the closest portrayal of Uncle Adi. Though I somehow like Robert Carlyle overhyped performance as Uncle Adi (he shouted a lot in the movie) in Hitler: The Rise of Evil
