A German veteran referred in a letter to soldiers from Ostpreußen as Marijallcher, can somebody explain the meaning of this word?
Thanks in advance,
Timo

Hallo Timo,
depends on the context; maybe there was a little town in eastern prussia with a similar name (Maria, Mariä, Mariellchen) and so this soldiers refers to it. For the inhabitants of former eastern prussia it was a common word to show a special kind of astonishment to say "Mariellchen" in their special slang - by saying so, you could indentify the people from former eastern prussia ( like the JAWOLL is typical german militay language ).
