M-44 Tunic Questions

Post by panzergrenadier »

I had a couple of questions about the M-44 tunic, and was looking for some help.

1.) When was the actually date of general approval and issue of the uniform to soldiers. I have heard July of 1944 and September of 1944.

2.) I have been told that the uniform was field tested in 1943 with six combat units. Does anyone know which divisions that was, or if that is even true, as I have read varying accounts.

3.) Does anyone have any links or leads on photos of troops wearing the M-44 in the field, be it in action or even as POW's.

Best Regards to You.

Hello!

The Feldbluse44 was officially introduced with Vfg.v.25.9.1944 (HM44 Nr.603).
No reference I have about uniforms gives details how these tests since summer 1943 looked like. Schlicht/Angolia says that no details exist. But they were tested.

Thank you. Are there any details at all regarding issuance previous to that date. And if I am reading you correctly, that date is September of 1944. Any reason why several sources I have read indicated that the date of issuance was in July of 1944? I have always been rather confused by the conflict on date.

Best Regards

Davis' book German Army Uniforms and Insignia 1933-1945 shows several photos of M44 uniforms.
