Information Request

Post by gsorg »

In letter of my great-grandfather to my grandfather say:

Salem, 25 November 1940

..... Unseren Soldaten geht, es gut Franz ist Gefreiter & Albert Obergefreiter, Albert hast das eiserne Kreuz II kl. & das Panzersturm Abzeichen. Wir sind stolz auf unseren Söhne. .....

I live in Argentina and my Grandfather (brother of Albert & Franz) emigrate to Argentina in the year 1923.

Where I can obtain request the information about the Military Record´s of Franz Sorg (Gefreiter) & Albert Sorg (Obergefreiter), and the Record of the "eiserne Kreuz II kl." award ?.

What is: "Panzersturm Abzeichen" ??

Thank !

Concerning the Panzersturm abzeichen...

Gustavo,

About the PAnzersturm abzeichen, I think that probably is a reference to the "Panzer Assault Badge", an award given to soldiers who were members of the Panzertruppe, as a trank crew (in which case the soldier receive it in Silver grade) or as a panzergrenadier (bronze grade).

For more info about this award go to the http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com

Interesting to note that he also was a recipient of the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st classes.

Regards,

Douglas.
