Dog tags

I am wondering if it is possible to tell the identity of a German veteran by the number on the dog tag ?

The details of the disk can be given to the German organisation who hold records of armed forces during the war. It make take some time for them to respond though as they have a huge backlog of requests.

Also, if you post the details of the tag here, sometimes readers can help id the unit, if not the person in question.

Fake dog tags

Do people make phony dog tags? Do they ever!

There are misspellings, non-existent units, square dog tags made of brass (!), you name it.

Be careful. My suggestion is that you approach Mr Awender, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of matters military and ask him for advice. Joscha

My dog tag says:

2. / N. 30

0 115

I suppose it is a tag from the 30. inf. division but if anyone have further information please let me know.
