VAT to be Charged for the European Union (HOLD for SFuller)
To comply with changes in the law in the European Union, Sony Online Entertainment game Subscribers who are residents of EU countries will be charged VAT equal to 17.5% of the subscription fees. These changes require that digital services be taxed at the point of consumption , i.e. in your country of residence. The countries currently covered by this policy are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and United Kingdom.
This is for monthly online billing gentlemen. Our European friends who play Massively Multiplayer Games with us will be taxed crazy for playing online games. Quite a few of my European friends will no longer be playing many online games.

It's funny to note that benefits from our independence are still in-place after so many years. A good reminder to us that Unfair Taxation still does exist, and that the ideas of Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson are still serving us, centuries into the grave.

You are of course aware that the US is massively funded by, foremost of all, European money?

To the tune of about 2 billion $ a day, you are cementing your position as the worlds biggest debtor, from 20 years ago when you were the worlds biggest creditor.

So, given your fondness of the US, all I can say is:

You are welcome.

Well Henrik, I don't believe by calling the VAT unfair makes it a national and international economic arguement. I'm saying the VAT is unfair to gamers because it's rediculous. I'm not saying I hate Europe in the slightest. It's European Gamers that are annoyed by this; obviously I myself am not even remotely affected.

I'm happy about the Independence of my country today primarily because we have not been affected by European Socialism which is to blame for this tax. Granted in another 10 years or so we'll be Socialist, but I'll be fighting to the bitter end amongst our out-dated Conservatives. :)

Your arguement too, is rather flawed. We spent billions rebuilding Europe after WW2 and likewise arming and defending it for 50 years. If anything, the situation you described is making things even.

After bombing it to ashes. By the way: the 2nd WW made the US the biggest economic power, so I don't think you have anything to complain about.

Hmm, I'm still a bit confused as to how this got off topic, but every country in the world benefitted from WW2 because it ridded us of the Great Depression once and for all. Might is not what I'm concerned with. I'm talking about the US getting involved in a foreign war and using US tax dollars to rebuild it's enemy. Afterwards supplying and defending Germany against the Communists the Wehrmacht had provoked.

Baltasar: For a more intensive arguement on this subject which I initiated in the German langauge, refer to here:

I am gonna side with Rob S. on this one. I am of the opinion that Europe needs the US WAY more than the US needs Europe. Take your 2 billion away, and we'll take our billions away from you, then we will see who should be saying "You're welcome".

Oh, and my condolences to all the European games out there.
