I do not know how many mines there were at Normandy but in Cornelius Ryan's book 'The Longest Day' he mentions the mines, commentating that Rommel was so disgusted at the lack of security he arranged for mines to be laid from Holland to past Normandy. The book includes his drawings of the devices he wanted. Hope this helps.
