WHAT IF SEPP DEITRICH DIED IN GREECE 1941?
Canadians. I don't think it was proven that he gave any order to that effect though.2311Marine wrote:I was reading a part in STEEL INFERNO and either didn't realize or forgot that another SS General was a SgtMaj during WWI, Kurt Meyer. Now he inspired and was from what I can tell a good leader. Although he soiled his rep by killing British POWs in Normandy.

Guderian & Dietrich
I remember reading in a few books that Guderian & Sepp Dietrich actually got on quite well; a mutual respect existed between them that Dietrich didnt enjoy with some of the other senior Heer personnel.
He (Dietrich) must have been an inspirational leader to hs men in the Liebstandarte & later in the 6th SS Panzer Army, from all accounts that I have read (in various books).
While he didnt have the military nous & background of a "Papa" Hausser, Dietrich was still a very respected leader (even though he was labelled by many as being an uneducated beer swilling thug), a fact that was reflected by the very large attendance of former comrades, at his funeral in April 1966.

They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun & in the morning...WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. LEST WE FORGET!
