I would choose Vercingatorix of the Gauls. He had a rather hard task on his hands. Fight the largest, most well trained and best equiped army there was with a extremely loose faction of tribes who would sooner fight each other than the Romans. What a task he had. What courage it must have taken to surrender to Julius Caeser.
