Krasnogwardiejsk - Aug 1941.

Post by tigre »

Hello to all :D; something more...............

Krasnogwardiejsk, KV against the 8th Pz. August 1941.

On August 18, 1941, a single KV-1 (its number 864, whose commander was Lieutenant Kolobanov) was buried and camouflaged near the city Krasnogwardejsk (Leningrad area). The tank was ordered to defend the road to kingisep. The tank had double load of ammunition, two thirds of them were piercing. When the German column appeared, the KV I opened fire and destroyed the first tank of the column, after two more shots the second caught fire and then the fire went against the tail of the column .........

Then the Soviets observed two Germans towed guns that were at the crossroads. The first gun was disabled, but the other was able to make a shot that damaged the periscope (loader Kiselkov replaced it under enemy fire). Soon the weapon was destroyed too. With nearly exhausted ammunition Kolobanov received congratulations via radio and the orden to withdraw. There were destroyed 43 German tanks, 19 guns, 11 halftracks. Kolobanov's tank got 135 hits, but no one penetration. Kolobanov was awarded with the Order of Lenin, Usov (gunner) with the Order of the Red Banner.
