Hello,
I noticed that in my books on the German Navy all the ships have the prefix either DKM or SMS. I know that all ships from 1936-1945 had the prefix DKM which means Deutsche Kriegsmarine Schiff. But what does SMS stand for?

Hi,
You have two choices :
First SMS means short message service and the german fleet belongs to Motorola, Nokia and Vodaphone or SMS means :
Seine Majestat Schiff (His Majesty's Ship).
All we need it's a Dackel in each pocket.

"Seiner Majestät Schiff"
or
"Seiner Majestäts Schiff"
It's possesivum, but I don't know what the possesivum of Majestät is; wether it's Majestät oder Majestäts. It's kinda tricky with those royal titles. ;o]

Genetivum possesivum of Majestät is simply Majestät.
I had to look in the dictionary
