Pz. A.A. 20 in 1944

Post by Commissar D, the Evil »

HI Folk, does anyone have a list of the commanders of the 20th Panzer Division's Panzer Aufklarungs Abteilung in 1944 and 1945?
Any other information on this unit would be vastly appreciated.

Hello Commissar!

Here is some information from Veit Scherzer, Dt. Truppen im 2. WK, Vol. 5 :

After been worn down to two companies already at the end of 1943,
Pz.AAbt. 20 was finally sent to Wildflecken in May, 1944, for a full refresh.

At the end of July, 1944, the unit was sent to Lithuania (/Litauen).
It had to fight there independently as Heerestruppe, mostly under 5th Pz.Div.
Only in October 1944, near Arys, it returned to 20. Pz.Div.

At the end of February, 1945, the 3.Kp. was temporarily dissolved.

Gliederung from October, 1944 :
- Stab
-- 1. Pz.Späh.Kp.
-- 2. le. Pz.Aufkl.Kp.(SPW)
-- 3. Pz.Aufkl.Kp.(SPW)
-- 4. schw. Pz.Aufkl.Kp.(SPW)
-- Versorgungs-Kp.(mot)

----------------------------
List of Commanders (all listed as Kdr.) :

04/1943 - 07/1943 Maj. Schönbeck, Johannes; DKiG 13.08.1943, PzAA 20
08/1943 - 02/1944 Hptm. Gabler, Wilhelm
03/1944 - 03/1944 Hptm. Ilse, Walter
04/1944 - 07/1944 Hptm. von Hannecken
08/1944 - ??/1944 Hptm. Lehner
??/1944 - ??/1945 Hptm. Petersmann, Erwin

I hope that includes some infos you were looking for  !
Best regards,

hero.
