V-Zuender

Post by Helmut »

Servus,
I was reading about a shell fittedd with a V-ZUENDER. I know a Zuender is a fuze but what kind of fuze is this and what does the V stand for? Obviously an abbreviation.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Regards,

Hello Helmut,

maybe the V- stands for Verzögerungs- (decelaretion).

I´m no specialist for ammunition, so i can give no guarantee for this option.

Kind regards

Achim,

Thank you but I don't think that's it. I am a n ammunition specialist. I have worked with ammo for almost 30 years. I think it has something to do with the fuze having a proximity setting or a delay. Just curious as to what the German word is that the V stands for. If I can find this out, I can tell what the fuze is.

Thanks again

Hello Helmut,

does not have delay the same meaning like deceleration in English?

Before i have answerd your request yesterday, i have searched the right english word for Verzögerung. Maybe i have chosen the wrong word, because i was not sure which is the right word.

A projectile with a "delay fuze" does not explode when hitting the targhet. It intrudes into the target and explodes after a given time in the object.
A projectile with a "proximity setting" explodes when getting near to the target, not intruding in the object.

Am i right?

Kind regards
