Re: 18 Kriegs-Junker-Lehrgang Graduate List March 28, 1945
If you look closely at the list there is an amount of officer candidates who were sent from this course at Tölz to the different weapons-school with the rank of SS-Standartenjunker d.Res d.W.SS, but the majority of the candidates was SS-Standarten-Ober-junker d.Res.d.W.SS. I wonder why those listed at SS-Standartenjunkers were still at the school. This rank indicates that they did not pass some exam at Schlussprüfung and were not comissioned as SS-Standarten-Ober-Junker!! As I can remember from earlier courses these candidates were shipped back to their frontline units, maybe some can explain why this did not occur here?
Does anybody also know if any Vershertzen-Lehrgang ended together with this 18. War-time-course? I have a long Bericht from a norwegian who were given the same rank as these SS-St.Ob.Ju d.Res.d.W.SS and he would become an Zug.fhr in the 38 SS-Nibelungen. He mentions three other norwegians, one of them is listed here but the two others and the author is not listed among these men from 18. war-time.course.
Regards

Rgt. Norge - I don't believe that it is correct to say that the Junkerschule participants who ended the course with the rank of Standarten Junker were simply sent back to their units. They just had to wait a little longer to be promoted to Untersturmführers. As an example, two Dutchman from the 11 KJL appear with a rank of St.Ju. on a 14. March 944 transfer list to the SS´Panzergrenadierschule with approximately 50 other classmates, most of whom were Standarten Oberjunkers. One of the men was Gerard Helsdingen and he was later promoted to Ustuf. (Aktiv) on 1 September 1944, rather than 21 June 1944 as the majority of his classmates.

Back side of the Helsdingen document where his attendance at the 11 KJL is confirmed. His protion to Untersturmführer was announced in the Nachtrag section of the SS-Personalveränderungsblatt in November 1944.

Helmut Botzen was promoted to Untersturmführer even later on 9 November 1944.

Thanks John!
Yes it seems indeed correct that they was held back in promotion. But who can answer the question why these men had to wait another 3 months before they got their promotion to Ustuf. What was the reason back at Tölz for this. Could it be that they just did not pass some excam on Schlüssprüfung or is it other reasons. I know about some norwegians who got Beförderungssperre for some disiplinary reason at Tölz in the last moment and this very special case with the 8 norwegian political leaders who attended the 3. Lhg. f.germ. Offz in 1943/44. They also, except 1 was comissioned as SS-Standartenjunker d.Res as sent to Skibatl. NORGE as Gruppeführer. None of them received any promotion to Ustuf as I have seen. They was sent to Tölz with a special agreement between Himmler and political leaders of Norway.
