Hello Helmut,

I guess you mean Streifenkompanie. These were special formations used to control, guard, direct etc.. soldier in trains, official buildings, stations, bars, pubs in rear areas etc...

Here an example of the Streifenabteilung Groß-Berlin on my site.

Thank you Christoph.
I was reading the history of the Prinz Eugen Div and several times they mentioned "Streif-Kompanie but rereading the passages, your definition would fit. They speak about the Division going on an operation and a certain company being designated as such.Thank you for the information.

Hello Helmut,

found mention of the Streifkompanie of the 'Prinz Eugen' Division here http://www.forum-der-wehrmacht.de/threa ... tid=156660

Each mountain infantry batallion had one company that would operate detached from the main body mainly for the purpose of
reconnaissance and flank protection.

I think the term Streifkompanie is related to the old term Streifkorps. Such Corps of a few thousand men operated behind enemy lines to destroy enemy communications and for counter-insurgency. As this required high mobility their supply train
was very limited and they used to live of the land largely.

Now that would make sense in the context of the book.

Thanks for your help.
