Hello to all :D; something more on it............................

Fighting at Osieciny on Sep 10 1939.

The battle on Sep 10 of 1939.

The II. /IR 309.

Early in the morning on September 10 of 1939, the II. /IR 309 was marching within the column of march integrated by IR 309 (reinforced); the march order was the following: III. Battalion - II. Battalion - I. Battalion.

Around 09:00 hours the column began to receive artillery fire from one and a half kilometer due west of the crossroad Radziejow-Redecz Krokowy and Osieny-Probostwo. When the Battalion had advanced beyond the crossroad began to receive rifle and machine-gun fire from the directions of Osieny, Karolin and Zakowice.

The 5. /IR 309 was deployed due east of the crossroad with the tasks of neutralizing the enemy fire with its heavy weapons and assuring towards the north; the 6. and 7. /IR 309 meanwhile received the same task along the highway to Osiecyny while taking positions facing to the east and the northeast. The enemy bombardment lasted till 12:30 hours. A combat patrol was sent under Leutnant von Kuczkowski (6. Company) in order to verify if Osieciny was free of hostile troops and to recognize the magnitude of the enemy towards Karolyn.

The Leutnant went out with two groups of the 2. Platoon and shortly afterwards he was followed by the Commander of the Battalion. The first group continued towards the locality whereas the second group had to maintain the liaison with the company. When entering the town they received artillery fire and withdrew to the edge of it, but the shells had been fired by the German artillery thinking that still were Polish troops there. Later the reconnaissance went ahead and it was determined that the Poles had left the place.

Around 14:00 hours the enemy (half of a reinforced battalion with artillery) withdrew of his positions. According to one regimental order the advance was resumed again at 16:00 hours.

The losses of the II. Battalion: 1 MIA.
