Hello to all ; a little info about the family v. Wechmar................
Irnfried von Wechmar.
Born on February 12 of 1899 and died on November 27 of 1959; he was a German Officer and a journalist. At the beginning of WW I in 1914, he entered as an teenage Cadet-Officer in the Garde-Fußartillerie-Regiment (Guards Artillery regiment on foot) after his promotion to Lieutenant (Leutnant) acted as an artillery officer throughout this fight, being decorated with the Iron Crosses of Iº and IIº Class (Eisernen Kreuz I. und II. Klasse).
After the war he served as volunteer in the Free Corps and continued in the Reichswehr. In 1922 he resigned and became a journalist in Berlin.
After the ascent to the power of the Nazi Party, v. Wechmar rejoined to the Army as Captain (Hauptmann) and was assigned as Commander of the Aufkl. Abt. 3 (Reconnaissance detachment 3) of the 3 Pz. With that unit he took part in the Campaigns of Poland (September of 1939) and France (May-June 1940).

In February of 1941, arrived at the north of Africa (Libya) with his unit of exploration forming part of the Deutschen Afrikakorps, being Major at that time; in March of that year he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (Oberstleutnant).
On April 13 of 1941 was decorated with the Knight's Cross for the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz) and in January of 1942 earned the German Cross in Gold (Deutschen Kreuz in Gold).
Oberstleutnant v. Wechmar in Libya 1941-1942
He was transferred and considering his task as journalist, he was designated as the Head of the Department of propaganda of the Army from January 1942 till early 1943. In that very year (1943) he was promoted to full Colonel (Oberst) and was assigned as Commander of the Panzergrenadierregiment 147 in the East Front.
From 1944 till the end of the war he was Commander of the Sector of Defense Esbjerg-Fanö in Jutlandia (Denmark) and there he was taken prisoner by the English troops.

Major Albrecht (Bubi) Freiherr von Wechmar.
Major Albrecht Freiherr von Wechmar, was Commander of the II. /KR 18 and after the mobilization on August 26 of 1939, already as Oberstleutnant, was assigned as Commander of the Aufkl. Abt. 35 (35 ID). Albrecht was cousin of Irnfried.
