OoB Norway Para OPs

Post by Fish »

Hi
I am looking for the name of the commander of the 2nd company 1st Bn FJR I, which was tasked with securing the Oslo airfield in April 1940.
I know the 2nd Co was posted with Maj Walther and the HQ element for this mission.
Also anyone got any good books about the Norway operation with reference to German Paras????

Thanks
Fish

Hi Fish,

The CO of 2./FJR1 in 1940 was Hauptmann Kurt Gröschke.

As for books on the Paras in Norway, they are virtually non-existant in English. Have a look at "Fledgling Eagles" by Christopher Shores (ISBN 0-948817-42-9) which at least gives decent info concerning their drops.

Regards,

George Harper.

Hello!
No, there is not much available on the paratroopers in Norway at all.
You have "Die Fallschirmjäger von Dombaas" by Olt. Schmidt, otherwise I know of no good books on the subject.
For the Dombås battle, you can read more at: http://www.nuav.net/fallschirm.html

Here are six books in English that you might wish to look into in regarding the Fallschirmtruppen in Norway.

German Paratroops in World War II, by Volkmar Kuhn
Storming Eagles, by James Lucas
German Airborne Troops, by Roger Edwards
Hitler's Blitzkrieg Campaigns, by JE Kaufmann
The Bitter Years, by Richard Petrow
The German Northern Theater of Operations 1940-45, US Army Historical Study

Hope this helps!
