Brandenburg Division by Eric Lefevre

Post by charlie don't surf »

I bought 'Brandenburg Division: Commandos of the Riech' recently and it's quite good. It's written in the storytelling form, just like Panzer Aces.

The book is a 333 pages long softcover and the publisher is Histoire & Collections. It contains some Order of Battle data, maps and some pictures. I think there should have been mure pictures in the book, especially of the main characters. This book is the kind of book that one reads fast. I recommend it to anyone who's interested in the Brandenburger operations.

Best regards/ Daniel

I think Helmuth Spaeter had written a book on the division

Though it has not been translated.

Heinz,
What do you mean it hasn't been translated? My copy is in English.

I agree that it's quite good although I'd have appreciated better detail on the operations conducted during Barbarossa.

Heinz,
Do you mean Später's book on the Branderburgers? Or Lefebre's? The latter is available in English and is what I was referring to in my earlier post. I don't believe that the former has been translated yet.

I'm currently looking at this book, is it a good buy or is Skorzeny's memoirs more informative?

Go for Lefevres.A good and balanced account of Brandenburgers. Also quite cheap as softcover.Havent read Kurowski's book about subject,so don't know which is better.

Cheers Juha

Skorzeny was the commander of ABwehrleitstelle II in the fall of 1944 and later. One of his units was Abwehr 218 in Slovakia commanded by Major Erwein Graf Thun-Hohenstein. Do any of these books -- including Skorzeny's memoirs -- mention this particular Abwehr unit or Thun-Hohenstein?
