After having emptied the magazine of the Karbine 98K, if you try to work the bolt you find that you will be unable to close it due to the spring elevated magazine bottom. To close the bolt you must push it down before sliding the bolt forward. Doubtlessly this was intentional. What better way to remind a combat frenzied soldier that his magazine is empty than by preventing him from closing the bolt?
There seemed to be several variants of the Karbine 98 circulating throughout the Wehrmacht in WW2. Did all of them have this attribute? Some of the WW1 Mausers did not have this. Can anyone give me the distribution numbers of the types of Karbine 98s in WW2?
