Dear friends:
I came accross the folowing:
"Erkennugsmarke: -88-7./I.A.R. 268" (7. Batterie leichtes Artillerie

What does it mean? I'm looking for info about Siegfried Bleiweiss who was member of this unit. Thank you for any help. Walter.

ERKENNUNGSMARKE
Dear Lorenz:
Thank you for your comments. The information was received from the "Deutsche Dienstelle (WASt)" and reads as follows:
-88-7./I.A.R.268
(7.Batterie Leichtes Artillerie Regiment 268)
What does the "I." stand for? Were can I find info about wounds and decorations Siegfried Hellmuth Bleiweiss has received? Thank you for any help. Walter.

Walter -
Your "I." refers to I./A.R. 268, which means I. Abteilung/Artillerie-Rgt. 268. An Abteilung was the equivalent of a battalion of between approximately 500 and 700 men. But here is what I don't understand myself: 7. Batterie belong to the III. Abteilung, not the I. Abteilung.
A.R. 268 belonged to 268. Infanterie-Division to 3 Nov 43, and then to the 36. Inf.Div. (later named 36. Grenadier-Div. and still later 36. Volks-Grenadier-Div.).
Perhaps some others here can help you find out how to obtain information on decorations, etc. That's not my field.

The 88 is the so called "Stammrollennummer"Erik k. wrote:Hi,
The number -88- was this persons number he had in the regiment.
It is a very low number so the regiment was not so old when he got in!
regards,
erik
