If god forbid, Obama was to die before taking up his office by the end of January next year, would Biden the VP Elect automatically become the President, or does it remain in Bushes hand or the Speakers until a 'quick' re-election can take place?

Andy - it used to be that clear....BUT courtesy of Los Alamos - things became slightly more complicated as of August, 1945, so this exact question had to be resolved in detail -

I think it also depends on whether or not the electoral college has officially voted or not.
