Feldmarshal Obama...

I think the social democracies of Europa finally have their man in WARshington, bitte. The question now is: Will the US Army return to Heidelberg now that they've seen...gulp...Baghdad?

So lets see…In a time of severe economic uncertainty and increased governmental surveillance, a dubious character with an obscure background and a messianic complex emerges. This figure is largely an outcast from the fringes of mainstream society, raised mostly by his single mother. His worldview is shaped by his impoverishment, and with this comes a sense of anger and resentment towards those in power. With a gift for oratory, he sets off his career in politics by community organizing, directing his message of hope and change to the disenfranchised masses. He even adopts his own symbolism and banner. With the overwhelming support of media and academia, hungry for revolution, his message is heard and enthusiastically received by the youth of the country, idealistic and eager, with dreams of a romantic utopia of fraternal brotherhood and peace. In their quest for change, and with their leader’s consent, they set out to convert the masses, using all forms of persuasion, including intimidation, harassment, ridicule. and character assassination of opponents, all the while staying within the framework of the existing democratic constitution. Eventually, their tactics pay off, and their Leader, now with messages of unity—One People, One Nation, One Leader, Hope, Change, We are the People, A Level Playing Field, is demanded by the elites and the masses. In January of the following year, he is voluntarily given the power he has striven for all his life…..

Very well written. But that's the most absurd comparison I have ever read. :D

Why is it absurd? Comparison? Who do you think is being compared with whom?

Are you serious? Of course you're not serious. There was a point to that little essay, wasn't there? You did everything but call him the son of an Austrian customs official, and owner of a dog name of "Blondie".

Why michael? What would make you think I was comparing the rise of The Most Merciful Lord Obama with that of the Fuhrer of the Grossdeutsches Reich, unless the similarities were already unconsciously apparent to you?

Ps have you seen the youtube videos of the kids singing songs and the Obama Youth regiment pledging loyalty?

This part you've got entirely backwards; this was from McCAIN's playbook (whereas Obama actively refrained from "... intimidation, harassment, ridicule, and character assassination..."):
"In their quest for change [or in the Republican candidate's case... whatever - his campaign was such a pathetic train wreck it was hard to tell what it sought], and with their leader’s consent, they set out to convert the masses, using all forms of persuasion, including intimidation, harassment, ridicule. and character assassination of opponents, all the while staying within the framework of the existing democratic constitution"

Well, you did skillfully craft that piece so that your meaning was unmistakable. Through phrases often attributed or applied to Hitler, such as "gift for oratory" and "One People, One Nation, One Leader" (Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer), you make your meaning clear. But the fact of his speaking ability does not make him particularly comparable to Hitler; the substance of his words is in no wise comparable to Hitler- more like other "gifted orators" (JFK, Lincoln, MLK, etc.). And by speaking of unity- why that's as American as baseball (remember "E pluribus unum"?) Neither you nor I ever heard Mr. Obama declare "One People, One Nation, One Leader", because he didn't.

Words are versatile. One can use them to make an apple indistinguishable from an orange, or Michael Jackson comparable to Johnny Cash. But playing around with words don't make it so.

Obama as Hitler, though- that's a good one.

By the way, enjoy your new President!

One more thing- I can't wait for the start of this "Dictatorship of the Proletariat"-thingy. As a financial contributor to Dear Leader's campaign, I've already received my "Peoples' Commissar" uniform.

Guys,

Either way, I for one am glad Obama is the new president. Let's hope he will be a fair and just president. He has a lot of cleaning to do, and I have my doubts he will be able to do so. After all, he's only human (or is he... @{ ).
That said -mean hat on- it would have been better if McCain or any other had become the next president of the USA. Cleaning up is not going to make him -or whoever- popular. People have short minds these days.
On the other hand, in his acceptence speech he made very clear he needs everybody to do the job. Will he include Republicans in his administration? I do hope so. To beat the crisis, one has to be united. Take the blame together. Or take the glory together, which is far better.
Too bad the messages I have written in the past about the current president are gone. In my (leftish) eyes he's been a religion-fanatic and a warmonger (try to merge these two things: Thou Shall Not Kill, Kill'm All) and now the complete world has to suffer from the results of it (international crisis: okay, too easy to blame it on his wars, but these wars had to be paid with lend money which could have been better spend on the healthcare in the USA).

I am hoping for a new era. I do not pray, but if I would, I would pray for that. An era without war unless REALLY needed. An era in which the USA will take a look at itself and see where there are things wrong. If it aint broken, dont fix it. Well, there are many things broken, so start to fix it. Fix your economy. Fix your healthcare. Fix the problems of people losing their homes. Fix the reputation of the USA.
One thing that has bothered me a lot, and made me also very angry was the Either With Us, or Against Us policy. WTH ! To quote Disney: It's a small world after all! Our economy (as in: the world around the US) is of great influence by the US, the US economy is of great influence by us, we all need each other in a way.
Utopia, where are you! ;)

At the risc of being called a racist:
Mr. Obama is now President elect. God help America.

Similarities ?
Uncle Adolf was not a German, but an Austrian; Mr. Obama is not an American, but a Kenyan; His father was not "black" but an Arab, and so was his grandfather, married to a caucasian woman. In those days a "white woman, would not have married a "negro", but an Arab was somehow different. He was not born in Honolulu, but in Kenya, The birth certificate produced after many weeks of probing by Ex Gov. Berg, was highly suspect, and a local judge hurried to close and seal the case around it.
Another birth certificate (entry) in Kenya, misteriously disappeared. His Grandmother who witnessed the birth and had alluded to a birth in Kenya, suddenly got sick and died soon.

Uncle Adolf , beside being a good soldier, and dispatch runner, with rewards for bravery, had NO leadership experience. Mr. Obama has not either, and as future commander in chief has not ever, even served in the U.S.armed forces.

Uncle Adolf got much of the money needed for his election run, from capitalist sources, disguised as donations from "small" people. Mr. Obama had a war chest of nearly a billion, donated by "small" people ???? (my foot)

Uncle Adolf promised "change" to the German people; they got "change" allright. Wonder what Mr.O's "change will look like.

Uncle Adolf drew away from the Catholic Church, when it became a hinderance in his career. Mr. Obama . . . . ditto, only not Catholic but a so called black church, who's pastor hated whites, and preached revenge an reparations, with Mr. O. in attendance for twenty years, until . . . . it became a hinderance in his campain, at which time he broke with his one time pastor. ( Ich habe es nicht gewust) ??

Oh well, read Oswald Spengler's "Untergang des Abendlandes", written in the early 1900's and it nearly becomes a prophesy.

As a person, I wish Mr. O. and his family all the best. (And I mean this sincerely) As a president ? I can't wait till he falls flat on his face, trying to keep all the promises of his campain.

Oh well; Look for the United Socialist Republic of North America in the future.

Haen,

Okay, let's assume his real religion is indeed the islam. Would that make him lesser a man? If it is real, wow! A black muslim as leader of the USA. Wow again.
Is it really mendatory to have served in the army to become a great leader? As I see it, it's not. Or do you think it is really needed to show how often you had a collision with a bullet, or shrapnel to become a leader?

Haen, I am sometimes really surprised to read how "right-winged" (my words) you react on things. Especially since you are dutch (and thus more tolerant by nature) of origin (I expect more of you). But perhaps that's why you moved to the USA
No really, give this man a chance. Yes we do. Or did you prefer Sarah Palin as your interim president?

Thanks Piet.

IF his religion turns out to be Islam, we are in for BIG surprises.
If you read the Koran, you will find that it preaches not peaceful coexistance, but "kill the infidel" , the infidel identified as the "people of the book" ( Jews and Christians).

According to the Koran there is only ONE religion valid, and that is Islam. It will lay dormant for years when necessary, but God beware when it gets a chance to take over.

As I see it, our tolerant Europe is little bit by little bit being Islamized; wait for the minarets and 5 times prayer calls a day, and the requirement for women to be covered top to toe. (for their protection of course) . Look at Saudie Arabia. pretty isn't it ?

As for me being intolerant ?, I am just as intolerant against pseudo christians, imitation jews, etc. etc.

As for leaving for the U.S.A. ? I had a pretty "cushy" semi government job, but saw the handwriting on the wall. ( Influx of foreign help, because our own youth became too lazy to do the dirty work.

Anyway , Peace! my friend; not too long from now I am to stand before my maker and give account for what i screwed up during my life.

It hardly behooves me to try to change others. :? :D

I too wish peace to all. But HaEn, your theories and hypotheses seem half-baked to me, and while I won't cast the "R" word your way because I truly don't believe you are a racist, I see more than a touch of "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" in your and pzermeyer2's posts; only the target religion is different.

Man says he's a Christian. Good enough for me. Would be equally good enough if he were Muslim or Zoroastrian or even Scien-friggin-tologist- as long as he keeps his religion outside of his governance. But he's a Christian. He says so. And until I see ironclad proof of these off-the-wall allegations (of birth in Kenya vs. Hawaii, for example), I'll give them no credence.

He [Obama] bluntly declared, and I quote, that "we [the U.S.] will kill Osama-bin-Laden". That's no way to make friends with radical Islam. But it is a more sensible approach to dealing with Osama-bin-Laden than overthrowing Saddam Hussein.

The people [whom you no doubt would call "sheeple"] spoke. Like it or not, a lot of things are going to change. In my humble opinion, probably for the better.

"I can't wait till he falls flat on his face, trying to keep all the promises of his campain." What a "nice, positive, forward-thinking outlook". Luckily, you're in the minority.

On the subject of Obama and the military. Which candidate would be most likely to approach our wars with greater restraint, deliberation, and intellect? The man who sang "Bomb-bomb-bomb-- bomb-bomb Iran" or Obama? When the now President-elect said this:
"We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there"
the RNC presented it as a blatant attack on our brave servicemen and women (see article on the debunking of that smear at
http://www.democraticunderground.com/di ... 32x3450388 ).

Today we have this in the news (at http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081105/ts_ ... n_violence ):
Karzai says air strike kills 40 in Afghanistan
Wed Nov 5, 12:57 pm ET

KABUL (Reuters) – Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Wednesday an air strike by coalition forces earlier this week killed some 40 civilians and wounded about 28 in Kandahar province.

Karzai called on U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to make it his priority to stop the killing of civilians.
Scores of Afghans have been killed in U.S. air strikes this year, leading to resentment against the presence of foreign troops and a rift between Karzai and his Western backers.

The air strike took place on Monday in the Shah Wali Kot district in the southern Taliban heartland of Kandahar province.
"By bombing Afghanistan, the war against terrorism cannot be won," Karzai told a news conference.

Several villagers who had taken a group of wounded to the hospital in Kandahar city said the air strike hit a wedding party.
The U.S. military said it was checking reports.

"The coalition and Afghan authorities are investigating reports of non-combatant casualties in the village of Wech Baghtu," said U.S. forces spokesman Commander Jeff Bender.

"If innocent people were killed in this operation, we apologize and express our condolences to the families and the people of Afghanistan," he said in a statement.

U.S.-AFGHAN TENSION
Reuters television pictures from the village of Wech Baghtu showed a burned car and half a dozen men shoveling white, dusty rubble from an area surrounded by a wall. The villagers showed Reuters white material soaked in blood.
The bride was among the wounded brought to the main hospital in Kandahar city, her relative Juma Khan said. The air strike happened during a clash between foreign troops and Taliban insurgents in Shah Wali Kot district, Khan said.
A Reuters witness saw three children with shrapnel wounds and seven wounded women in the hospital.

Karzai requested Obama make it his priority to end civilian casualties.

"The main problem, which has become a matter of tension (with the United States), is civilian casualties," Karzai said. "Civilian casualties should completely stop. The war in the villages of Afghanistan will never give fruit."

Some 4,000 people, around a third of them civilians, have been killed this year in fighting with the Taliban, who have expanded the scope and scale of their insurgency trying to oust Karzai's Western-backed government and eject foreign forces.

NATO and U.S.-led coalition troops in Afghanistan say they do their utmost to avoid civilian casualties, but mistakes happen. Far more civilians are killed in Taliban attacks, especially by suicide and roadside bombs.
