Not only must he had been one of the definitely last veterans from WWII when he died. That he also had witnessed a ceremony held in England in 1917 with veterans from the Crimean War of 1853-1856 is really mindboggling, what a perspective in time! These veterans must have been born in the 1820's and 1830's... A truly fascinating perspective!

Hi Doktor:
I read a great article about Mr. Buckles in the Washington Post and it was superb. The man lived through WWI only to be incarcerated by the Japanese at Los Banos in the Philippines in 1941 and remaining their prisoner until the famous raid in 1944!! He certainly lived in "interesting times". Best wishes.
