"The Guns of August" by Barbara Tuchman...

Post by L. Kafka »

How is this '60s work rated in terms of popular histories? I have been reading it recently and wondered how someone new to WWI history might regard it. I have also read Paul Fussell's book "The Great War and Mondern Memory."
"What are they going to do, send me to Vietnam?"
A oft heard GI refrain in Vietnam in '68.

Hello Kafka:
I loved it when I first read it many years ago, and I still recommend it to people, especially those who need an easy entry point into WWI history. It is such a smooth read and full of information. Best wishes.
