:D He had a Rendezvous with Death...
Rendezvous
I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air -
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.

OH!! Hideous of Fates!! Woe is Me!! The least you could have done, Waleed, is wait till I gave a couple more clues @{ Perhaps I should have started with his military photo, but his French helmet would have given away the Army he served in. I had planned to use it as a second clue. Well, you are the master, so I bow to your expertise

I'm so sorry for spoiling your short lived "moment of WWI quizzing glory", even though
you did manage to give one clue to the Doktor...

I see you managed to post an official Feldgrau Photo Riddle too!
I'll try refrain from answering that one too fast, but as Lance Armstrong once said...
"every second counts" and I am up against the Swedish Doktor and he's good!

My next one here:

This is going to be a VERY strange answer...but a LONG time ago I read of a SMALL Japanese expeditionary force to Europe - only about 1200 men - and that the Crown Prince visited them....?

(This whole thing could of course have been nonsense, I've never been able to turn up anything since!)

Not Japanese and not a prince... only a simple hero.

Maj. Charles White Whittlesey of the US 77ID, leader of the famous "Lost Battalion" during the 1918 Meuse-Argonne offensive and Congressional Medal Of Honor winner. A wall-Street lawyer before the war. He later took his own life while on a steam-ship bound for Cuba; he suffered from intense survivor's guilt and the demon's of war. A good man and a great loss.

 Uh! Getting better at it, eh! :D

Yes, Maj. Charles White Whittlesey.

Saw "The Lost Battalion" the other night and
thought I'd give him a chance...

Well done and... Back to you!

Hello Waleed:
I just finished a very good book on the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which detailed Whittlesey's exploits and served me in good stead with this quiz. He has always been a hero of mine. Well, I am delighted to have made some small dents in the Dane's and Swede's dominence in this realm, although now I have to come up with another riddle :[]
