RNAS Armoured Car Section

Post by phylo_roadking »

While trying to chase down details about the Defence of Antwerp in 194, I've come across references to the RNAS Armoured Car Section. I knew about it operating in other theatres, particularly Gallipoli and the Middle East later in the war, but didn't know about this early war history as part of the Royal Navy expeditionary force to Antwerp.

Can anyone point me to anything on the Net about them in 1914? Again, Wiki as a first point of contact has only a few VERY brief details, and nothing to flesh out a proper hunt.

There was also at least ONE book about the earlier 1914 history, written in 1930 by the early CO of the 1914 RNAS expedition contribution at Antwerp , Cmdr. C.R. Samson, Fights and Flights, but can anyone point me to more modern sources?

Might be something here:

Or here:

There's footage of the armoured cars on the BBC Great War documentary.
